Human Development Profile for India - I

The Human Development Profile for India is based on data collected in 1994 from a rural sample of 33,320 households in 16 states. The questionnaire focused on indicators of education, health, and material well-being.

The survey was conducted by the National Council for Applied Economic Research (NCAER). Abusaleh Shariff is the primary investigator. The survey was commissioned by the Planning Commission and financed by a consortium of international organizations including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
