Sociology 699J: Surveys in Developing Countries

National Sample Surveys

The National Sample Survey (NSS) is a periodic sample survey of the entire country collecting more detailed demographic and economic data. Different surveys ("rounds") focus on different topics. We will be using primarily the 55th round conducted between July 1999 and June 2000.

There are two questionnaires we will look at:

The primary Consumer Expenditures (Adobe pdf 198K) schedule, which, as its title suggests, focuses on detailed expenditure data.

The Re-visit (Adobe pdf 170K) schedule which focuses on employment and unemployment. It also has a good short form of an expenditure survey.
