Sociology 432: Social Movements

Our study of social movements should be practical as well as theoretical (not that the two are opposed!). We want to leave the course better able to participate in effective social movements.

So we will keep a steady eye on success: what works and what doesn't? So for each case we see on film or read about, the first questions you must ask yourself are

• What made this movement effective or ineffective?
• What can we learn from it that might be useful to the social movements we are involved in?
