ABSTRACT: The problem of sex ratio imbalance in India needs a disaggregated analysis. The absence of such analysis masks the seriousness of the problem among certain groups and in certain areas. This paper presents data on female/male ratio for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and the rest of the population. While further disaggregation among various subgroups is necessary, the data presented here help to identify some major problem areas.
